History of Allendale NJ

Taken from portions of Orvil Township, Hohokus Township, and Franklin Township, the formation of the borough of Allendale NJ took place on 8th November, 1894. The phenomenon of Boroughitis, which had then taken over Bergen County, led to the formation of Allendale. The phenomenon saw the creation of 26 boroughs in Bergen County in 1894. A surveyor for the Erie Railroad named Joseph Warner Allen is after whom the borough of Allendale was named.
