History of Beachwood NJ

In 1914, 1,763 acres of the Berkeley Township were bought and sectioned off as what was then known as a summer colony named ‘Beachwood’, which is how its initial settlement took place. This particular plan was supported by the publishers of the New-York Tribune. In return for what they invested, the buyers were given a subscription lasting for six months of The Tribune. The very first summer saw the first cottages being developed in this summer colony. The borough of Beachwood was officially established on 12th April, 1917.
