History of Mahwah NJ

The northern part of Franklin Township was utilized to create Hohokus Township in 1849. The subdivision of Hohokus Township first took place in 1886, as a result of which Orvil Township was developed on both sides of the Saddle River. On 7th November, 1944, a referendum was passed, owing to which, Hohokus Township was erased out of existence and Mahwah Township was created from whatever was remaining of Hohokus Township.
