History of Oradell NJ

The borough of Oradell NJ was initially incorporated as “Delford”. The area during this particular time was transforming from a farming community into a commuting one, and the establishment of railroads made the commute system much easier for the residents. The building that is Oradell NJ’s Borough Hall today initially functioned as a school providing education to the kids between grade one to grade eight. In 1913, the Oradell Public Library was established.

The second mayor of the area, Daniel Demarest, takes the credit for the name “Oradell”, inspired by the geography of the place. Irving Crump, the late author and former editor of the Boys Life scouting magazine, resided in Oradell NJ.
