History of Tenafly, NJ

The Palisades Township was formed when Tenafly joined hands with six neighboring villages in the year 1872. The independent incorporation of the borough of Tenafly took place on 24th January, 1894. The railroad made its entry in Tenafly in 1859. Once Daniel Topping Atwood, a well-renowned architect from New York, arrived in Tenafly somewhere during the 1860s, he bought the land from Peter Huyler. He aimed to construct buildings near the Northern Railroad and also built the Railroad Station between 1872 and 1874.
