History of Wayne, NJ

Passaic County came into being from certain portions of Bergen County, and that region went on to become a part of the new Manchester Township back in 1837. When the first township meeting was organized, the citizens voted a split from Manchester, which is how Wayne came into being on 12th April, 1847.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, agriculture was the major focus of Wayne NJ. The other industries that developed in the township of Wayne included cider mills, saw, and grist.
